A lovely British/IB school in the vibrant city of Colombia seeks a Head of Educational Support Team. This is a job for an expereinced Special Needs Lead Teacher.
The main responsibilities of the HEST would include:
To manage the inclusion programme ; to lead and support the educational support team ; to lead, support and train personal assistants (inclusion programme) ; to organize and deliver training to leading staff; to co-teach in classrooms to provide models of good practice; to manage and coordinate provision for children with special educational needs; to maintain communication with external therapist; to assist the rector and the admissions department with admissions process of inclusion /support students; as well as -
Managing the Inclusion Support stage of the educational support continuum.
Leading and supporting the Educational Support Coordinators.
Assisting the Rector with the recruitment of the personal assistants (Learning Support Assistants)
Assisting the Rector and the Admissions Officer with the admissions process of students that will be admitted to the school at the Inclusion Support stage.
Facilitating the smooth transition of students from one school Section to the next, providing a link between the Heads of Section and between the ESCs.
Managing the IEPs of students at Inclusion Support, including planning the review dates, chairing the meetings, ensuring that all relevant people contribute to the IEP process and monitoring students’ progress in their targets.
Leading and supporting the PAs (Learning Support Assistants) in their work
Organising and delivering training to the EST and to teaching staff in differentiation and in educational support.
Co-teaching in classrooms to provide models of good practice to class/subject teachers, the EST and Learning Support Assistants.
Maintaining a list of external therapists that students may be referred to, who are willing to contribute to IEP meetings and who are willing to work closely with the school on students’ targets.
Maintaining communication with parents of students at Inclusion Support.
Essential Requirements:
Qualified teacher status.
Master’s degree in Special Education Needs or UK National Award for SEN Co- ordination or equivalent.
Minimum 5 years teaching experience in Special Education Needs in Schools.
Minimum 3 years working in ( middle) management in schools.
Desirable requirements:
Experience in teaching in international education.
Experience in IB schools.
Able to communicate in Spanish
